Accountant, Kent County Road Commission

Under the guidance of the Director of Finance, the Accountant will complete and review accounting transactions and perform reconciliations, specifically related to accounts receivable, capital assets, equipment, and inventory. This position will also analyze financial data and assist with projections and budget planning for a wide array of KCRC work functions. The ideal candidate will be familiar with accounting software, have significant experience recording a multitude of accounting transactions, and possess the aptitude to help implement any necessary changes.

 

What you will do:

  • Assist in technical decisions regarding recording of revenue and expenditures
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and providing information for the annual audits
  • Assist with recording capital assets and conducting a bi-annual inventory
  • Oversee all billing activities, including maintaining work orders and customers
  • Responsible for reconciliations related to cash, inventory, advances, and accrued liabilities
  • Identify areas for improvement and coordinate with others to initiate, document, and implement
  • Analyze data to provide information and make informed decisions
  • Integrate technology into accounting procedures to the betterment of KCRC
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize work
  • Maintain precise and organized records of vital documents
  • Manage time to meet deadlines and complete responsibilities timely
  • Think critically and develop solutions to complex problems
  • Provide excellent customer service to all KCRC staff and customers
  • Perform other functions as assigned

 

What you must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience in general ledger accounting and analysis
  • Thorough working knowledge of standard account theory, principles, and practices
  • Working knowledge of subledger transactions and associated accounting; including accounts receivable, inventory, capital assets
  • Governmental accounting experience and experience with internal service funds preferred
  • Basic understanding of accounting functions, including accounts payable and payroll
  • Expertise using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with all people, both internally and externally
