The Michigan Government Finance Officers Association is proud to offer an advanced session in the techniques for effective budgeting and forecasting. Attendees should expect to leave with “best practices” which should enhance the overall effectiveness of the entities budget development and management process.

Who Should Attend:

This course will be an advanced session: it is designed for persons who have had previous experience and knowledge of the budget process. Excellent for City Managers, Finance Directors or Budget Analysts who want to learn more about new and effective budget techniques.

Speakers:

Brian J. Camiller, CPA, a Partner with Plante Moran, has 23 years of experience working with governmental organizations, including counties, cities, townships, villages, libraries, retirement systems, and authorities.  As the industry leader for Plante Moran Governmental Accounting Professionals (PMGAP), he oversees a team of 22 accountants and serves 70-plus governmental organizations per year. In addition to preparing organizations for the annual audit, creating municipal budgets and water and sewer utility rate models, and a variety of other consulting services.  He is a frequent presenter for municipal organizations on topics as wide-ranging as the latest GASB pronouncement to Government succession planning to the American Rescue Plan Act.   When not performing government accounting miracles, Brian enjoys coaching his kids’ sports teams and spending time in the great outdoors.

Carolyn Lorenz, CPA, Manager with Plante Moran, has over 20 years of experience in accounting and auditing for municipalities of all shapes and sizes throughout Michigan. As a manager of the Plante Moran Governmental Accounting Professionals (PMGAP) group, her experience includes temporary and permanent financial management for municipalities, including performing detailed account reconciliations and day-to-day accounting tasks; year-end audit preparation, including creating audit schedules and preparing financial statements; emergency assistance including rebuilding accounting history and bringing delinquent accounting records up to date; preparation of annual budgets and five-year forecast models; implementing new GASB pronouncements; preparing utility rate studies; assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions; chart of account redesign and business process reviews.  In her free time, Carolyn enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors. 

Sheryl H. Johnson has recently been named the new Chief of Central Fiscal Services for Oakland County. Sheryl has almost 30 years of governmental accounting experience including Finance Director for the City of Ferndale, Government Specialist for Plante Moran and various positions at the City of Pontiac.  Sheryl has an undergraduate degree in accounting and a master’s degree in management, both from Walsh College. Sheryl serves on the Board of Directors for FernCare Free Clinic and MGFOA - Michigan Government Financial Officers Association.  In addition to spending time with her kiddo, Hunter, and her friends, Sheryl enjoys photography and bowling.
