Position: Finance Director

CITY OF ADRIAN, MICHIGAN

The City of Adrian (pop. 21,000) is seeking a public finance professional to become an integral member of the City’s management team and lead the Finance Department. Adrian (adriancity.com) is a city of arts, parks, and culture and is the home of three colleges – Adrian College, Siena Heights University, and Jackson Community College. Adrian is proud of its historic downtown featuring shops, restaurants, and events. It is the Lenawee County Seat and is located in close proximity to three major metropolitan areas – Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Detroit.

This position is responsible for oversight and management of City’s accounting, purchasing, payroll, tax billing/collection, and funds investment activities. The Finance Director coordinates and manages the annual budgeting process and implementation and serves as liaison for an annual independent financial audit. The City participates in the Government Finance Officers Association’s Comprehensive Annual Report Program. The City’s most recent budget totaled $32.6 million. Candidate must have proven experience in public finance and have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate useful financial information and projections to board and commission members, city administration and the public.  

The ideal candidate will possess leadership abilities, be customer service oriented, and have a track record of building coalitions, taking initiative, being innovative, and following through on projects. A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years applicable experience in public finance required. Previous experience in financing economic development and redevelopment projects is a plus.
