Job Summary

The Municipal Accountant must be highly accurate when dealing with numbers and quick at catching and correcting errors.  Ideally, the candidate should be comfortable interacting with a variety of people and departments but also be capable of working independently.  The Accountant frequently has exposure to a variety of high-level initiatives and projects. 

The position holds responsibility for various general accounting duties and reporting functions of the Township. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in preparation of the annual budget, involvement in the annual audit process, performing reconciliation functions, upholding the integrity of the general ledger, managing fixed asset inventory, maintaining the BS&A program, support of monthly receivable billings, and many other special projects. The wide variety of tasks and responsibilities makes each day a unique and exciting challenge. The position holds a high level of responsibility to ensure that that all processes and records are in compliance with all accounting standards, laws and regulations.


Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in accounting

o   Municipal or governmental accounting preferred, but not required

  • Ability to proficiently utilize office equipment, computers, Microsoft Excel and other office software is required

o   Experience using BS&A preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge and understanding of municipal operations in order to effectively assist the accounting team
  • Ability to work under pressure without sacrificing data accuracy or integrity
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality

Supplemental Information

Starting Rate: Based on skills and experience. To be determined with management.

Classification: Regular, Part-Time Position. Non-exempt from FLSA.

Work Week: Working hours are very flexible and subject to candidate input. The ideal candidate will have consistent availability and will work approximately 20 hours per week. Additional hours, up to and including overtime, are likely to be required during audit and budget preparation time periods. The candidate’s final schedule will be discussed and determined with management.
