Summary:
The Payroll Technician 4 is responsible for day-to-day Payroll and Time & Attendance analysis and implementation. This position is responsible for gathering requirements, collaborating with the Time & Attendance Payroll Manager for the implementation of changes impacting activities. The Technician will support the entire Payroll and Time & Attendance team to ensure delivery of timely and accurate payroll processing and reporting for leadership and employees. This position will represent Time & Attendance for responsibilities pertaining to the implementation of new projects. This position will also ensure the Time & Attendance system is compliant with company policies, union contracts, legislative/regulatory changes, and tax requirements of federal, state and local authorities.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate and participate in the processing of payroll including the computation and posting of employee time, subtraction of appropriate deductions, and preparation of required reports.
- Prepare payroll journal adjustments, audit payroll accounts, and transactions, and prepare supporting documentation.
- Ensure incoming time and attendance and personnel transactions are accurate and conform to applicable ordinances and legislations.
- Reconcile, assist with the preparation of, and file W-2's as well as quarterly, year-end, and related payroll tax reports to ensure compliance with federal and state tax agency requirements.
- Process retroactive pay adjustments.
- Establish and maintain all files and records necessary to ensure that city employees are correctly and punctually paid.
- Analyze and troubleshoot payroll issues.
- Ensure timely reporting and payment of the employer's and employees' withholding taxes and miscellaneous withholdings to appropriate agencies.
- Introduce efficiencies and best practices to management that meets the needs of employees, leaders, finance, and HR.
- Acquires and retains working knowledge of UKGPro (formerly Ultimate Software
- Maintain confidentiality of personnel, payroll records, and reports.
- Perform special projects as required.
Qualifications (required):
- High school diploma or G.E.D. (General Educational Development) equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience in processing or verifying payroll.
- 3+ years of time and attendance system with experience of developing new system features and set up
- Strong working knowledge of MS applications, such as excel (pivot tables, v-lookup, and formulas, spreadsheets); word (mail merge, tables), outlook (email, calendars, tasks)
Qualifications (preferred):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field of study.
- Proficiency with UKGPro (formerly Ultimate Software)
