The City of Ferrysburg is hiring for a Clerk/Treasurer!

CITY OVERVIEW

The City of Ferrysburg is located in the northwest corner of Ottawa County, on the Lake Michigan shoreline. It adjoins two other incorporated municipalities – the City of Grand Haven, and the Village of Spring Lake.

Approximately 3,000 residents call the City home, which is located in an attractive setting, with an abundance of land fronting on water, and in the midst of the towering wooded dunes of the Lake Michigan shoreline. The area is within easy commuting distance of Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland areas.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a permanent, full-time position opening this summer due to a staff retirement. This combined position handles the statutory required duties of a clerk and treasurer. In proactively supporting the City Council, City Manager, staff and residents, the Clerk/Treasurer works collaboratively, while upholding the duties and role of the Clerk/Treasurer's office with confidence and independence.

Under the direction of the City Manager, the Clerk/Treasurer:

  • Serves as Clerk to the City Council, attends meetings, records and prepares official meeting minutes;
  • Serves as the official custodian of all City records and documents;
  • Serves as the Chief Elections Officer;
  • Administers elections and oaths of office;
  • Oversees the collection, management, and accounting of all monies owed to and held by the City;
  • Prepares and distributes payroll; oversees and participates in all payable and receivable processes;
  • Supervises 2 full-time employees;
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.


REQUIRED SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Successful candidates will:

  • have knowledge of principles and practices of accounting, financial management, budgeting, payroll, municipal operations, elections, and computerized data information systems;
  • be able to plan, organize, direct and coordinate duties;
  • work effectively with the public, vendors, consultants and fellow employees and elected officials;
  • be able to attend meetings outside of normal business hours and work extended hours during elections;
  • understand employees working in a small office must take on a variety of tasks;
  • have a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field;
  • have state certification for elections and a notary public certification, or ability to obtain certifications;
  • have at least three years of experience in a similar role with supervisory responsibilities.

 PAY/BENEFITS

  • Salary of $54,600 - $68,248, dependent on qualifications and experience;
  • Full insurance benefits package;
  • 401(a) plan with a 10% City contribution;
  • Paid time off.
