Whether you are interested in accounting standards, legislative issues, member support, professional education, or technology, committee service is a meaningful way to build relationships, share knowledge, and contribute to the future of government finance in Michigan. ![]() Explore MGFOA Standing CommitteesEach committee supports a different area of MGFOA’s work and provides members with opportunities to participate based on their interests and expertise. Standards and Advocacy Accounting Standards CommitteeThis committee monitors GASB due process documents, including invitations to comment, preliminary views documents, and exposure drafts. Committee members review these materials and submit response letters to GASB to advocate for the needs and perspectives of local governments. The committee may also take on special projects that support government finance officials, including work in partnership with the Michigan Department of Treasury. Policy and Legislative Affairs Legislative CommitteeThe Joint Legislative Committee includes members of MGFOA and the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association. The committee monitors and discusses federal, state, and local legislative matters that may impact members and Michigan public entities. Meetings may include updates from partner organizations such as the Michigan Association of Counties, Michigan Municipal League, and Michigan Townships Association. Member Support and Engagement Membership and Wellness CommitteeThis committee advises the Board on membership-related topics and supports members through mentoring, engagement, and career development resources. The committee helps identify ways to strengthen member value, welcome new members, support professional connections, and encourage continued participation in MGFOA. Education and Training Professional Development CommitteeThe Professional Development Committee works to provide MGFOA members with affordable and relevant opportunities for professional growth. The committee supports training, webinars, and educational programs focused on public finance, accounting, budgeting, legislative changes, and other topics important to governmental entities. Innovation and Technology Technology Resource CommitteeThe Technology Resource Committee investigates and evaluates technological innovations available to the public sector. The committee focuses on tools and practices that may improve productivity, access to information, strategic planning, long-range business practices, analysis, and reporting capabilities.
